Gimmick rally Aug. 14
Mark the date on your calendars for the first gimmick rally held by our region in a couple years. A gimmick rally has been described as a “scavenger hunt on wheels.”
Cars will depart from a Cedarburg park pavilion, rain or shine, to drive a course that will feature some of the twisty backroads that we have previously driven on tours and some additional roads that will offer glimpses of Lake Michigan. The route will take each car through several towns ranging from small hamlets to medium sized. A set of detailed turn-by-turn driving directions will be provided for each car to follow. While driving, participants will be looking for objects depicted in photo clues and answering questions about things you might see along the way, if you’re observant, that is.
Each car will be required to have a minimum of 2 people. It’s considered unsafe for a solo driver to focus both on driving and looking for clues. But, a car may contain more than two people.
Rallymeisters: Dana & Tom Furman, Sue & Tim White, and Ellyn & Alan Wagner have been working for months to put this rally together. The planning is essentially complete, with only small tweaks required going forward. The rally will officially end at the same park at which it started. Participants will be provided with additional directions for the 7-mile drive to Foxtown Brewing in Mequon, where we will have lunch and rally awards will be presented. There will be two classes of participants: 1) Cars with just 4 eyes, and 2) Cars with more than 4 eyes. Experience has indicated that there is definitely an advantage to having more observers. Awards will be presented to the first-, second-, and third-place finishers in each class.
Information regarding how to sign up for the rally will be provided in an upcoming newsletter. In the meantime, mark the date on your calendars and stay tuned for more details.
