July 25 visit to Potosi Brewery: A vintage happening

by Robert Finlayson

From the picture above, it doesn’t look like much, but it’s the famous Potosi Brewery. The brewery is famous for:

  • Vintage atmosphere and flavor: A distinct character and charm that makes it an inviting day trip.
  • Good beer: Hand crafted with care and local pride.
  • Good food: They do pretty good, especially for as busy as it gets.
  • Scenic location: Just minutes from the Mississippi River.
  • Unique escape: An alternative to the usual Galena trip, with a flavor all its own.

Sharon and I have visited the brewery a few times and have enjoyed the experience every time. We’re planning to go back in July and thought it would make a great day tour for the Region. If you agree, and are free on July 25, we would be honored to have you join us on a tour from Columbus to Potosi.
We reserved a private room at the brewery for a late lunch. The space only has room for 40 guests (max), which means there is a limit of 20 cars on this tour (adults only). We will reserve four spots for new members or first-time tour participants.
The plan is as follows:

Schedule
9 a.m.    The drivers meeting will be at 9 in the Columbus area.  Waivers will be signed at that time, and all participants will receive detailed directions. The exact meeting location will be sent to registered participants once registration is confirmed. There may also be a group driving together from the Milwaukee area (with enough interest). More info to follow.

9:15 a.m.  – 1:15 p.m.    We plan to take off at 9:15. The caravan to Potosi will be approximately 3.5-4 hours, with two rest stops.

1:15 – 1:30 p.m.    Group photo once we reach Potosi and some time to explore the Great River Road Interpretive Center & Transportation Museum.
1:45 – 3:15 p.m.    Lunch. We have the Founders Room reserved for our group. Lunch will be buffet style, $32/person. Alcoholic beverages will be an additional cost.
3:15 p.m. - ??    Further exploration of the interpretive center and transportation museum, National Brewery Museum or store at your leisure if desired. Return drive home will be on your own (about 3 hours).

This will be a full day of good driving, good food, great company, and unforgettable experiences (good or bad…you’ll have to cast your vote later)!

Hopefully we can light up this sign:

Registration will open May 17 on MotorsportReg.com for up to four new members and/or first-time tour participants. The remaining slots, along with any remaining unfilled reserved slots, will open on May 24 for all region members. Registration deadline is June 20, or once the 20-car limit is reached.
