Macan ICE production to end this summer
Porsche is bracing for output of the critical gasoline-powered Macan compact crossover to end and is optimizing the runout.
"Production will be stopped in summer 2026, and during the last month that we have, we produce as much as we can,” Porsche CFO Jochen Breckner said during the company’s April 29 earnings call. “Of course, our capacity is one factor there, but that’s not limited. Supplier parts are the other issue,” he said. Breckner did not detail production volumes.
Porsche builds both the gasoline version and the Macan Electric in Leipzig, Germany. Macan output began in late 2013, with the 1 millionth Macan assembled in July 2025.
The nameplate quickly became Porsche’s bestseller. Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions, said the firm expects internal combustion engine Macan production to end in July.
A replacement for the gasoline Macan is not set to arrive until 2028, meaning there will be a significant gap in the lineup for Porsche and its dealers.
Porsche is set to launch both ICE and hybrid options of the Macan’s replacement.
Gasoline-powered Macan is even more important post-tax credits
U.S. Macan sales totaled 6,079 in the first quarter, a decline of 19 percent, but still the highest across Porsche’s lineup. The German automaker sold 27,139 Macans in 2025, up 8 percent. The crossover was Porsche’s bestselling model in 2025.
Around one-third of Macan sales are the electric version.
Breckner said Porsche is seeing great demand for the gasoline Macan in the U.S.
“That’s even more important based on the fact that the tax incentives on the electric vehicles have been stopped by the U.S. government,” Breckner said, referring to the elimination of federal tax credits in late September.
“There’s some pressure on the electric Macan in the United States, and therefore, we provide as many ICE Macans in the United States as we can,” Breckner said.
Some Macan sales will spill into 2027 depending on the region. “But of course, a declining trend will then kick in once the supply stops,” Breckner said.
